GST rates are product/service specific. Use the rate applicable to your supply.

Intra-state: GST is shown as CGST + SGST/UTGST.

GST Calculation Formula

For a GST-exclusive amount: GST Amount = Taxable Value × GST Rate / 100 Final Price = Taxable Value + GST Amount For a GST-inclusive amount: Taxable Value = Inclusive Price / (1 + GST Rate / 100) GST Amount = Inclusive Price − Taxable Value For intra-state supplies: CGST = GST Amount / 2 SGST / UTGST = GST Amount / 2 For inter-state supplies: IGST = GST Amount Example at 18%: Exclusive: ₹10,000 × 18% = ₹1,800 GST Final Price = ₹11,800 Inclusive: ₹11,800 / 1.18 = ₹10,000 taxable value GST = ₹11,800 − ₹10,000 = ₹1,800

The calculator uses the standard percentage method for GST. For an exclusive price, tax is calculated directly on the taxable value. For an inclusive price, the GST component is extracted from the total using the divisor 1 + GST rate / 100. CGST and SGST/UTGST are each half of the total GST for the standard intra-state split, while IGST represents the full GST amount for an inter-state supply.

How to Use the GST Calculator

1

Choose Add GST or Remove GST

Select Add GST when you know the taxable price before tax. Select Remove GST when the amount you have is already GST-inclusive and you want to find the pre-GST value.

2

Enter the Amount

Enter the taxable value or the GST-inclusive selling price, depending on the calculation mode. The calculator accepts decimal amounts and formats the result in Indian rupee notation.

3

Select the GST Rate

Choose a listed GST rate or enter a custom rate. The applicable rate depends on the classification of the goods or services being supplied.

4

Choose the Supply Type

Select intra-state to split GST into CGST and SGST/UTGST, or inter-state to show the tax as IGST.

5

Click Calculate GST

Review the taxable value, GST amount, tax components and final amount. The result also shows the effective GST percentage and a calculation breakdown.

Example Calculation

₹50,000 at 18% GST

GST-exclusive example:

  • Taxable Value = ₹50,000
  • GST Rate = 18%
  • GST = ₹50,000 × 18 / 100 = ₹9,000
  • Final Price = ₹50,000 + ₹9,000 = ₹59,000

Taxable Value: ₹50,000.00

GST Amount: ₹9,000.00

CGST: ₹4,500.00

SGST: ₹4,500.00

Final Price: ₹59,000.00

GST-inclusive example: If ₹59,000 is the final price at 18%, taxable value = ₹59,000 / 1.18 = ₹50,000 and GST = ₹9,000.

Understanding the Results

Taxable Value

The value on which GST is calculated. In Add GST mode it is the amount you enter. In Remove GST mode it is the amount remaining after extracting the GST component from the inclusive price.

GST Amount

The total Goods and Services Tax calculated at the selected rate. It is added to the taxable value in an exclusive calculation or extracted from the total in an inclusive calculation.

CGST + SGST / IGST

For an intra-state supply, the calculator splits the GST amount equally into CGST and SGST/UTGST. For an inter-state supply, the full GST amount is shown as IGST.

Important Note

The applicable GST rate depends on the classification and tax treatment of the particular supply. This calculator is an estimation tool and does not determine the correct HSN/SAC classification, exemptions, reverse-charge treatment, compensation cess or other transaction-specific rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

GST stands for Goods and Services Tax. It is an indirect tax on the supply of goods and services in India. Depending on the transaction, GST may be charged as CGST and SGST/UTGST on an intra-state supply or as IGST on an inter-state supply.
For a GST-exclusive amount, multiply the taxable value by the GST rate and divide by 100. Add the resulting GST to the taxable value to get the final price. For an inclusive amount, divide the final price by 1 plus the GST rate divided by 100.
Use Remove GST mode. The calculator divides the GST-inclusive price by 1 + GST rate/100 to find the taxable value. The GST amount is then the difference between the inclusive price and that taxable value.
For an applicable intra-state supply, the total GST is split between CGST and SGST/UTGST. For an applicable inter-state supply, IGST represents the full GST amount. The calculator uses an equal CGST/SGST split for the standard presentation.
Use the GST rate applicable to the specific goods or services. Common rates include 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%, while certain supplies can have nil or other specified rates. The official GST rate schedule should be checked for the exact classification and current treatment.
